Chassis with ladder-type frame – convincing on and offroad.
The robust ladder-type frame is not easily upset. Its closed profile makes it particularly stable and torsion-resistant – an advantage compared to ladder-type frames with a U-profile. The rigid axle on the rear wheels also carries heavy loads and, with its larger axial crossover, improves the traction offroad. But the X-Class is not happy with robustness and loading capacity alone. Thanks to the multi-link rear wheel mounting with coil springs there is no shortage of driving fun or driving comfort.
The chassis with independent suspension and coil springs on the front axle combined with a multi-link rigid axle structure with coil springs on the rear axle convinces with outstanding agility and a high driving comfort. The impressive offroad properties are supported by the extremely robust multi-link rigid axle structure on the rear axle: This offers a high degree of articulation for the best-possible traction even in more challenging terrain. If a wheel crosses an obstacle – unlike with an independent suspension – the axle housing is also lifted, which ensures a consistently high ground clearance. For even more space under the vehicle a suspension with 20 mm more ground clearance is optionally available.
