By applying an electrical charge to the glass construction, the particles in the glass align themselves in such a way that light can penetrate through the pane. Passengers can enjoy an unobstructed view to the skies and a particularly light and friendly atmosphere in the interior.

When switched off the glass darkens. The particles redistribute randomly and block out a major part of the light trying to penetrate. This type of screen is significantly more efficient than a roof with glass panes featuring conventional thermal insulation layers. Consequently it is possible to reduce the internal temperature by up to 10°C.

As current to the roof ceases the moment the vehicle key is withdrawn from the ignition, the glass darkens automatically as soon as the vehicle is parked. This both prevents the vehicle heating up and obstructs the view into the vehicle interior.

The feeling of being in the open air is even stronger if you open the vario-roof. Open or close the vario-roof at speeds of up to 40 km/h.
