Full steam ahead. Efficient to emission-free.
Experience a new dimension in driving. In the plug-in hybrid.
Experience a new dimension in driving. In the plug-in hybrid.
The combination of a powerful 3.0-litre V6 internal combustion engine and an electric motor with externally chargeable high-voltage lithium-ion battery opens up exciting possibilities which offer more than an eco-friendly means of travel.
The plug-in hybrid of the GLE 500 e 4MATIC can run on electric power only, use the internal combustion engine or even combine the power of both drive systems when needed – with the so-called boost function. Here the electric motor briefly boosts the power from the V6 petrol engine, spurring the GLE 500 e 4MATIC on – for example when overtaking.
The recuperation process is equally ingenious: it harvests the kinetic energy generated during deceleration and uses it to charge the high-voltage lithium-ion battery. This extends the electric range while the vehicle is on the move.

A total system output of 325 kW (442 hp)
Figures for rated output and rated torque pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007 in the currently applicable version.
and 650 Nm
Figures for rated output and rated torque pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007 in the currently applicable version.
of torque provide for thrilling performance up to a top speed of 245 km/h. The combined fuel consumption lies in the range from 3.7 to 3.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions range from 84 to 78 g/km.
Local emission-free driving is also possible: the GLE 500 e 4MATIC has an all-electric range of up to 30 km – at a top speed of 120 km/h. The battery can be fully recharged in a good four hours at a standard domestic power socket or in two hours at a charging station.
Interaction between the electric motor and the internal combustion engine is unobtrusive and automatic. If you wish, however, you can select an operating mode, e.g. in order to drive using electric power only or to save the battery charge for later urban journeys. Our film shows you how the plug-in hybrid drive system works and how you can enhance the driving experience even further by selecting the right operating mode.
Intelligent hybrid. Your energy manager.
Intelligent hybrid. Your energy manager.
The Intelligent Hybrid operating strategy is all about anticipating the road ahead to ensure greater efficiency. It not only takes account of the current driving status and the driver's wishes but also the potential route over the next eight kilometres, registering e.g. inclines, downhill gradients and bends. The system uses the COMAND Online navigation data to manage the high-voltage battery's charge status, for example using the battery's energy content to power the vehicle ahead of a downhill stretch of the route before taking advantage of recuperation on the way down to recharge.
