Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function
Keep your distance. While staying ahead.
Radar sensors and a stereo camera continuously register and evaluate the situation ahead of the vehicle. In so doing, the system assesses not only the vehicle ahead, but also – up to a speed of 72 km/h – crossing vehicles <p>Detection of crossing vehicles is only possible in a speed range from 10 km/h to 70 km/h, and if the crossing vehicle is moving at a minimum of 6 km/h and a maximum of 50% of the own speed.</p>and pedestrians.
The individual functions:
- Warning of a danger of collision.
On detecting danger, the system provides the driver with a visual warning if the distance from the vehicle ahead is no longer safe and emits an audible alarm if there is a risk of collision.
- Situation-specific brake boosting effect.
When the driver identifies a risk of an accident and applies the brakes, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function supplies additional, situation-related brake pressure to ideally prevent a collision.
- Autonomous braking.
If the driver still fails to react after braking has been triggered, Active Brake Assist can initiate autonomous braking - to the extent of maximum full-stop braking, if necessary. In the case of pedestrians, autonomous braking can additionally be initiated simultaneously with the warning, as appropriate to the given situation. In this way, a collision with pedestrians or stationary vehicles can be avoided up to an initial speed of 50 km/h. At higher initial speeds, Active Brake Assist helps to reduce the possible consequences of accidents.
