For 50 years the company founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher has fulfilled the dreams of people thrilled by performance. They found their first workshop in 1967 in an old mill, "engineering office – construction and testing for the development of racing engines“. In 1971, the AMG 300 SEL 6.8 by "Aufrecht and Melcher, Großaspach" – AMG for short – was surprisingly victorious at the 24‑hour race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in its class and second place in the overall classification.
The cooperation with Mercedes-Benz began in 1990. The C 36 AMG was the first vehicle developed as part of the consignment contract with Daimler-Benz, launched on the market in 1993. In 2005, Mercedes-AMG becomes a 100% subsidiary of Daimler AG and, in 2009, with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG presented the first vehicle fully developed by Mercedes-AMG. With the SLS AMG GT3 in 2011 AMG spans the range of racing. In 2014, the introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT and, in 2015, the 43 models follow.
